ComcastTIX Sells Out WIP Wing Bowl 15 In 24 Hours
First Wing Off to take place this Thursday, December 7
This morning, Sports Radio 610 WIP's Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team (weekday mornings 5:30-10:00) announced that Wing Bowl 15 is sold out. WIP Wing Bowl 15 will take place at Wachovia Center on Friday, February 2 from 6 am to 9 am. WIP Wing Bowl tickets first went on sale Monday, December 4 at 10 am via ComcastTIX.
The only way to obtain tickets to WIP Wing Bowl 15 is by winning them from the The WIP Morning Team or attending selected WIP promotional appearances, said WIP Program Director, Tom Lee. WIP will be giving away free tickets at the station's first Wing Off event this Thursday December 7 at Landmark Americana Tap and Grille (1 East West Street) in Glassboro, NJ at 8 pm.
There will be a total of three Wing Off events this year. A Wing Off is a 10 minute wing eating competition held at an area bar/restaurant. Men and women over 21 years of age are able to eligible to compete. The contestant that eats the most wings in 10 minutes wins a slot at WIP Wing Bowl 15. Registration lasts one hour. There is a 40 competitor limit at each Wing Off. Wing Off's are hosted by former Wing Bowl champion Bill 'El Wingador Simmons and the WIP Morning Team's Marc Farzetta.
The theme of this year's WIP Wing Bowl 15 is Philadelphia vs. The World.
Five out-of-town competitors from the IFOCE (International Federation of Competitive Eaters) will be awarded automatic bids into the competition. The remaining twenty competitors will be contestants from the Philadelphia area that will qualify for Wing Bowl via eating stunts performed live on-air during the WIP Morning Show or at Wing Off events. The first IFOCE competitor announced was former WIP Wing Bowl champion Sonya "The Black Widow"? Thomas. Thomas lost by one wing in her last Wing Bowl appearance. The first local competitor to qualify for WIP Wing Bowl was "Humble Bob" Shoudts. He performed his eating stunt in the required amount of time. "Humble Bob" recently beat Sonya Thomas and last year's Wing Bowl champion, Joey Chestnut in a meatball eating contest.
WIP's Wing Bowl has risen in popularity from a crowd of 200 in a hotel lobby to an extreme following of 20,000 that packs the Wachovia Center on the Friday before the Super Bowl. WIP's Wing Bowl receives national attention each year as beauty pageant-worthy females feed 25 competitors as many chicken wings as they can eat in thirty minutes. The females, called Wingettes, compete in a pageant which awards the winner a trip to Cancun. The 610 WIP Morning Team, led by Wing Bowl co-creators Angelo Cataldi, Al Morganti and Rhea Hughes, broadcast the contest live on their radio show.
WIP-AM is owned and operated by CBS RADIO, one of the largest major-market radio operators in the United States. A division of CBS Corporation, CBS RADIO operates 154 radio stations, the majority of which are in the nation's top 50 markets. CBS RADIO also owns and operates KYW, WYSP, WPHT and WOGL in Philadelphia.
